Black and White Wall Art Prints

Black and white wall art is the part of this catalogue that works in almost any room, because it never argues with the paint colour. This page gathers every monochrome print in one place: one-line drawings of a rose, a pinky promise and a woman's figure; black leaf and begonia studies with the confidence of a linocut; eucalyptus and fern sets washed in black and soft grey; boho sun and moon sets in charcoal instead of terracotta; and typography posters — Hello Gorgeous, Work Hard & Be Nice to People, Good Vibes Only, Dream Big and HOME — set in plain black on white.

Every print is my own work, printed to order on heavy matte archival paper and shipped unframed, in seven sizes from 5x7 in (13x18 cm) up to 16x20 in (40x50 cm). Matte paper matters more in black and white than in colour: there is no glare to grey out the blacks under a lamp.

What goes with black and white wall art?

Almost anything, which is the point. Against white or oatmeal walls a single black print reads crisp and graphic; against a warm wood or a sage wall it becomes the quiet anchor. The one thing to avoid is a cool grey wall with a cool grey print, which flattens both. If your walls are grey, choose the prints with the strongest black here — the leaf and begonia studies or the typography — rather than the soft washed sets.

How do I stop black and white prints looking cold?

Warm the frame, not the art. Oak, walnut or brass frames and an off-white mat turn a monochrome print from gallery-cold to lived-in. Hanging it beside texture — linen, rattan, a plant — does the same job. The botanical and one-line pieces are drawn loose on purpose so they keep a hand-made warmth even in black.

Can I mix black and white prints with colour?

Yes, and it is the easiest way to build a gallery wall that does not look bought as a set. Keep roughly one colour print for every two in black and white, and repeat one colour from the room in the colour piece. Matching the frame colour across all of them holds the wall together.
